A meeting was held in Mt. Pleasant Monday evening to provide the public with information about the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires. Two Type 1 teams are now in place and managing the fires. Containment lines have been created from Santaquin to Spanish Fork Canyon, and officials said back fires would only be ignited if necessary. The fires are still very active, and because of the difficult terrain and safety concerns for the firefighters, containment is still a ways off. Fortunately, there have been zero buildings burned as of Monday night. The Pole Creek fire is 23% contained with 0% containment on the Bald Mountain fire, and the fires combined have burned 90,000 acres. As far as US 89 and Highway 6 closures, both roads will remain closed as long as the Pole Creek fire poses a danger to those roadways. However, officials were optimistic that evacuation orders may be lifted by this weekend, depending on fire activity this week.
