State Senate Proposes New Rule To Limit Media Access

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Senate is considering new rules to limit media access. A resolution proposed by state Senator Mike McKell would require all media members to get permission from the Senate media office before going onto the Senate floor. The Senate’s chamber, halls and lounge would also be off-limits to the media except when conducting an interview. An effort to control access to the House floor in 2018 was withdrawn after media outlets criticized the move.
