Piute County School District Moving to Four Day School Week

The Piute County School District is set to move to a four day school week starting next year after the Utah State Board of Education approved a request for the transition last week. District Superintendent Koby Willis shared that the move was made for a few different reasons, one being that the district had operated on a four day school week for about 20 years from the 1980s to 2002. Second, for saving instruction time with Willis stating “there’s so many sporting activities and other school activities that take place on Fridays that it’s going to allow us to focus a little bit more on instruction.” He also talked about saving students time spent on the bus with students from Koosharem saving well over 50 hours a year on a bus from dropping the fifth day. Valuable time the district says can be “used for family, homework or other activities that contribute to a child’s development.” The change will go into effect starting with the 2023-2024 school year.
