Lawmakers Consider Bill To Stop Gun Background Check Requirements In Salt Lake County

(Salt Lake City, UT) – Utah Republicans will again try to close a legal loophole that allows Salt Lake County to require background checks at gun shows. Under the law currently, Salt Lake County can require checks from vendors at any county-owned facility. That includes large shows at the Salt Palace Convention Center and the Mountain America Expo Center. SB115 would declare the state has total control over gun laws in Utah. Similar legislation cleared the Utah House last year, but never came up in the Senate.
