Judge sentences Jerrod Baum to life in prison for brutal murders of teens

Jerrod Baum, who was convicted of the aggravated kidnapping and murders of Riley Powell and Brelynne Otteson in 2017, will spend the rest of his life in prison.  Judge Derek Pullan sentenced Baum on Thursday to four terms of life in prison without parole for the brutal murders.  The judge called Riley’s murder a narcissistic act of cowardice and said Brelynne’s death was due to nothing more than her being with Powell the night they were killed.  He also said this was the most violent, selfish and disturbing murders he had witnessed in his 20 years as a judge.  The Judge said he hoped Baum would remember that even though he will wake up in a cell each day for the rest of his life, that can be his penance for denying Powell and Otteson the ability to live out their lives.
