Judge Considering Decision In Redistricting Case

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A Utah judge is considering whether she should grant a request to dismiss a lawsuit that wants to throw out the state’s congressional maps. The judge heard from both sides yesterday during a hearing in Third District Court in Salt Lake City. Lawyers for the state have asked the judge to dismiss the case, saying it should be decided in the legislature rather than the courts. But two voter groups claim the state legislature acted illegally in approving congressional maps that heavily favor Republican candidates. The judge said she needs time to review all arguments before issuing a ruling.
