(Salt Lake City, UT) – A committee in the Utah House narrowly passed a controversial bill that would create a school voucher program for children to attend private schools. HB 331 allows parents to take the money spent for their children in public school to go towards private school tuition, or homeschooling. Critics say the proposal would take away needed funding at Utah schools, and also point out that voters defeated a school voucher bill in 2007. The bill goes forward to the full Utah House for debate.
