The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has announced a statewide emergency closure on “shed hunting” on both private and public lands. The gathering restrictions are in effect now through April 30. In the press release from the DWR it was shared these restrictions also apply to looking for horns and antlers still attached to the skull plate of a deceased animal. This is being done in an effort to help wintering big game, particularly deer populations as the extreme cold and increased snow pack is starting to have a negative impact. The DWR shared they will continue to monitor the situation and may lift the closures earlier than April 30, if conditions allow.
