Bill That Would Punish Teachers For Talking About Divisive Concepts Fails

(Salt Lake City, UT) – A proposal that would allow the state to punish teachers for talking about “divisive concepts” in class failed to clear its committee hearing in the Utah Legislature. SB 257 from Republican State Senator John Johnson would have applied to K-12 schools and state-funded colleges. Teachers accused of teaching restricted topics could have faced a review of their educator’s license and loss of their credentials. The Senate Education Committee, which Johnson heads, voted to adjourn shortly after he introduced his proposal.
