Bike paths in Sanpete County closer to becoming a reality

Thanks to a statewide Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) plan, a network of bike paths across Sanpete County is one step closer to becoming a reality.  The UDOT 2023-2050 Unified Transportation Plan focuses most of its entries for Sanpete County on improving the conditions for cyclists. One of the main projects includes the creation of paved pathways that are categorized as multi-use but are oriented towards cycling.  It will create a network of bike-friendly paths along US 89 from Axtell to Indianola.  Other paths will extend branches to Spring City, Moroni, Wales, Fountain Green, and Mayfield.

Cycle Sanpete founder Jill Colby was recently awarded a $750,000 Federal grant that is being used for a feasibility study for a Fairview-to-Gunnison path along Highway 89.  The grant is being managed by Spring City under Mayor Chris Anderson.  Eventually, engineers hired by UDOT will complete a study and likely hold workshops to accept community insights into the process.  Updates on the project will be available at www.cyclesanpete.com.
