No one was injured after a plane made an unexpected landing on Interstate 70 in Sevier County. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Morgan, “a small airplane was traveling from California to Pennsylvania hoping to stop in Grand Junction for fuel. At some point they realized they were not going to make Grand Junction and began to make their way to the Richfield airport.” About 10 minutes from Richfield they ran out of fuel and decided to put the plane down on I-70 near MP 22. As they were landing, the plane just barely hit the trailer of the semi, causing the plane to spin out of control and into the median causing major damage to the plane. The pilot and passenger, both experienced flight instructors, were not injured. NTSB, FAA and UDOT were all called and assisted with removing the plane. According to Lt. Morgan, “the semi truck driver did not feel there was any damage so he left the scene.”
