An accident on Highway 89, two miles north of Manti on Tuesday, slowed traffic to a halt in both directions and resulted in a detour for many people. According to Lt. Jason Kelsey with the Utah Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling northbound when it hydroplaned, spinning into the southbound lanes. A second vehicle was traveling southbound at the time, and despite letting off the accelerator and maneuvering to avoid a crash, it collided with the first vehicle. The accident happened just after 3 pm and caused traffic to back up for miles. Eventually both northbound and southbound traffic was detoured around the accident site. The driver of the fist vehicle was transported to Gunnison Valley hospital.
