(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill designed to allow for the break up of Salt Lake County may or may not have been legally passed by the State Senate. The issue is whether HB 212 passed on Friday or Saturday. KSL reports the final votes were not cast until a few ticks after midnight. If that’s true, it would not be a valid vote because the Utah Constitution says a legislative session cannot last more than 45 days. Friday was the end of that 45 day window. Opponents of the bill say Governor Spencer Cox should veto it so he can avoid a costly legal battle.
