Utah Valley Men’s Basketball Faces Utah Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday, Utah men’s basketball (2-1) faces Utah Valley men’s basketball (2-3) at the Huntsman Center in a non-conference tilt.

The Utes score 71.7 points per game, ranking them 193rd nationally. Defensively, the Utes surrender 67.7 points per contest. This ties them for 135th nationally with Portland State, Tulsa and Weber State.

Senior guard Alfonso Plummer leads the Utes with 17.7 points per game.

Sophomore Finnish national, forward Mikael Jantunen leads the Utes on the glass with 6 rebounds per game.

Junior forward Timmy Allen leads the Utes with 12 assists, while sophomore guard Rylan Jones has 8 steals to lead the squad. The Utes’ leader in blocked shots is sophomore center Branden Carlson, a 7-footer out of Bingham High School.

In his 10th season at the helm of the Utes’ program, head coach Larry Krystkowiak is 173-127 (.577).

The Wolverines score 79.6 points per game, tying them for 82nd nationally with Southern Utah.

Defensively, UVU gives up 80.4 points per contest, tying them for 281st nationally with High Point.

Senior guard Jamison Overton leads the Wolverines in scoring (19.7 points per game) and steals (7).

Redshirt sophomore center Fardaws Aimaq posts 17.2 points and a team-best 15.6 rebounds per contest for the Wolverines. The Canadian national also has a team-best 8 blocks for UVU.

Junior guard Trey Woodbury posts 19 points per game and has a team-best 25 assists for the Wolverines.

In his second season at the helm of the UVU program, Mark Madsen is 12-22 (.353).

This will only be the second all-time meeting between these programs. Utah leads the series 1-0 as the Utes bested the Wolverines 87-80 December 6, 2016 at the Huntsman Center.
