SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says the state has no intention of delaying the November election following President Donald Trump’s suggestion that increased mail-in voting due to the coronavirus pandemic would result in fraud. Herbert characterized postponing the election as “foolish.” Meanwhile, the state hit a grim milestone Thursday of 300 total deaths from the coronavirus, but the rate of new cases has begun to decline. The state epidemiologist says she’s feeling cautiously optimistic about the state’s lower case counts as schools eye reopening this fall. She says school districts will decide their own reopening strategies with the help of local health departments.
