Canal Fire update

An update about the Canal Fire that started on June 28 in Juab county near Leamington has been provided.

As of July 2 the fire has burned 70,443 acres and is 20% contained.

Firefighters continued to build containment lines July 1 around all sides of the Canal Fire, with crews beginning to engage the fire directly in the rugged terrain in Fool Creek Canyon on the south end of the fire.

Multiple roads in the area are currently closed and there is a flight restriction around the area.

The cause of the fire is listed as lightning.
