Camp trailer fire in Willow Creek canyon

On May 9 a little after  7:00 pm Sevier County deputies and EMT’s were dispatched to a report of a camp trailer that was on fire in Willow Creek canyon above Salina. Salina Fire and Forest service fire also responded.

When deputies arrived on scene, the fire departments and EMS were already there. EMS advised they were leaving with three patients. One other patients chose to leave by private vehicle.

According to reports the fire was caused when someone in the group had gotten a gas can and had placed some gasoline on a stick to ignite the campfire. When the stick ignited it caught  the vapor from the gas can causing the gas can to ignite. The gas can then was picked up and thrown away from the camp fire, landing next to the camp trailer igniting the trailer, and a truck.

Gunnison Hospital advised that only one patient was admitted for smoke inhalation, the other patients were released.
