PROVO, Utah (AP) — Utah wildlife biologists are monitoring a sensitive species by wading through ponds in search of their eggs. The Daily Herald reports Division of Wildlife Resources officials were near Diamond Fork Canyon on Monday searching for eggs belonging to the Columbia spotted frog to monitor their population levels. The frog is one of four amphibians on the state’s sensitive species list because of the threats to its habitat and by predators. The spotted frog’s egg masses contain between 200 and 500 eggs, and officials typically find between 60 and 70 masses in the 20 or so ponds in the region.
