The Central Utah Public Health Department has announced the first confirmed case of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in a resident of the Central Utah Health District (Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier and Wayne counties).
According to the CUPHD, the confirmed case is a male, over 60 years of age, and is currently recovering in his home. It is believed that travel outside the US is the source of the patient’s exposure and due to medical privacy laws, no further information about the patient will be released.
CUPHD Health Officer Nate Selin stated that ” the individual followed all the recommendations and protocols to limit exposure by using telemedicine to contact a doctor and coordinate testing with the facility.”
The CUPHD is currently tracing the patient’s contacts to determine other potential exposures, and will instruct any possible exposures to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days.
Currently the CUPHD is not releasing information about which county of the health district the patient is from or at which testing site they were tested at.
