ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-Saturday, Utah State football (6-5, 5-2 in Mountain West Conference play) visits New Mexico (2-9, 0-7 in Mountain West play) as the regular season concludes for both squads.
Under head coach Gary Andersen the Aggies are 32-29 (.525) as he is in his second stint at Logan.
The Aggies score 27.4 points per game, ranking them 78th nationally in scoring offense.
Junior signal-caller Jordan Love completes 61.4 percent of his passes (245-399) for 2,913 yards, 14 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on the season.
Senior tailback Gerold Bright (142 car, 714 yards, 7 TD’s, 5 yards per carry) and junior running mate Jaylen Warren (96 car, 521 yards, 5 TD’s, 5.4 yards per carry) have consistently carried the Aggies’ running game throughout the season.
Graduate student receiver Siaosi Mariner (53 rec, 819 yards, 7 TD’s) has been Utah State’s leading receiver on the season.
Senior kicker Dominik Eberle (18-21 on field goals; 35-35 PAT’s) has been consistent for the Aggies on the season.
Junior receiver Savon Scarver has two kickoff returns for scores on the season. He averages 29.32 yards per return, ranking him eighth nationally.
The Aggies rank 78th in scoring defense (29.4 points per game) nationally, as they are tied with Texas and Purdue in that category.
Senior defensive end Tipa Galeai has a team-best three sacks and junior safety Shaq Bond has three interceptions to bolster the Utah State defense.
In news that broke Monday afternoon, New Mexico director of athletics Eddie Nunez has agreed to mutually part ways with Lobos head coach Bob Davie.
Davie (35-63, .357) is in his eighth season at New Mexico.
The Lobos score 22 points per game, ranking them 109th nationally.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Tevaka Tuioti completes 52.3 percent of his passes (102 of 195) on the season for 1,460 yards, 7 TD’s and 6 INT’s for the Lobos.
Senior tailback Ahmari Davis (140 car, 832 yards, 7 TD’s) averages 5.9 yards per carry (30th nationally) and redshirt sophomore back Bryson Carroll (93 car, 474 yards, 2 TD’s, 5.1 yards per carry) have been New Mexico’s stalwarts in the running game. Tuioti also averages 5 yards per carry for New Mexico.
Junior receiver Jordan Kress (25 rec, 514 yards, 5 TD’s, a team-best 20.6 yards per grab) has been the Lobos’ standout wide-out on the season.
Junior tight end Marcus Williams (24 rec, 408 yards, 17 yards per reception) has also been a reliable target in the passing game for New Mexico.
Redshirt sophomore kicker Andrew Shelley has made 12 of 16 field goal attempts on the season as well as 24 of 28 PAT attempts.
The Lobos have struggled defensively in surrendering 37.1 points per game. This ranks New Mexico 123rd nationally in scoring defense.
Redshirt senior linebacker Alex Hart ( a team-best 75 total tackles, 4 sacks, interception, forced fumble) is the Lobos’ overall defensive leader.
Junior linebacker Jacobi Hearn ( a team-best 6 sacks, two forced fumbles) and senior defensive lineman Erin Austin (a team-best three forced fumbles) have also been stalwarts for the New Mexico defense. Austin also has an interception on the season for the Lobos, as does sophomore safety Jerrick Reed II.
The Lobos lead the Aggies 13-12 all-time and 9-5 all-time at Albuquerque, N.M.
