SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The National Weather Service has released its weather forecast predicting record-breaking cold and snow in Utah.

Salt Lake Tribune reports that residents should be prepared as temperatures are expected to reach a high of 31 degrees Fahrenheit Tuesday and a low of 11 degrees including a 90% chance of snow.

Officials say the previous low temperature recorded in October was 18 degrees Oct. 30, 1971.

Weather forecasters say temperatures across the state are about 20 degrees below average and could be colder than any temperature ever recorded in Salt Lake City this month.

Officials say multiple cities in Utah matched or exceeded historical lows for Oct. 28 including Salt Lake City, Cedar City, Hans Flat Ranger Station in Canyonlands National Park and Capitol Reef National Park.
