Mitt Romney has been in the news recently with his remarks about the recently released transcript of the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy when Romney said he remained “deeply troubled.”
In light of this along with Rudy Giuliani’s comment that Mitt Romney was the Republican Party’s “Al Gore,” some local leaders have expressed their opinions on Romney.
Garfield County Commissioner Leland Pollock made a post on Facebook where he directly addressed Romney saying, “I am officially retracting my endorsement of you,” he wrote. “I trusted you as an outsider. You told me that you were a Republican, you are not a Republican, and you are not welcome in Southern Utah.”
Later in a comment to KSVC Pollock showed his support for president trump stating “he’s been the best president of my lifetime on rural southern Utah public land issues,” and “He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do including reducing the size of the grand staircase and bears ears.”
Utah state representative Phil Lyman weighed in with his displeasure of Senator Romney, “Mitt Romney was elected to represent us as a republican not as a Democrat and not as a Conservative Republican,” he said. “The way we address presidents in this country is through elections not through this kind of constant endless barrage of attacks and when it’s coming from within our own party it’s really despicable.”
Iron County Commissioner Paul Cozzens said, “I’d like to just express my disgust with Senator Romney and join with several other County Commissioners in rural Utah expressing my disappointment in his constant attacks on our good president.” He also later stated about president Trump “I agree that there’s some things that we maybe need to tone down here a bit, but he’s doing a great job.”
Also, Piute County Commissioner Darin Bushman commented “Senator Romney never intended to represent the people of Utah, it’s very unfortunate that this election was more of a coronation than an election.” Later on, he also states about president Trump, “this president has done amazing things for rural Utah and especially this nation. It’s very unfortunate that Senator Romney is putting his own ego and desire for the limelight ahead of the constituents that he is supposed to represent.”
