EPHRAIM, Utah-Tuesday evening, the No. 11 Snow College women’s volleyball team swept Eastern Arizona 3-0 at the Horne Activity Center to improve to 5-0 on the season.
The victory marked the sixth straight win over the Gila Monsters, dating back to the 2017 season
After jumping out to an early six-point lead, the Badgers cruised to a 25-13 victory in the opening set. The two teams battled it out in the second set, with Snow holding on for a 25-23 victory. The Badgers turned up the heat down the stretch and raced to a 25-16 win in the third and final set.
For the match, the Badgers combined for 40 kills on 112 attempts, posting a .232 hitting percentage. Snow held Eastern Arizona to just 28 kills on 109 swings with 23 errors to post a .046 hitting percentage.
Freshman Korrin Thornock led the Badgers with 11 kills on 28 attempts, marking the second time in just five games she has had 10 or more kills in a match. Thornock hit an impressive .286 for the match. Fellow freshman Lydia Montague was credited with seven kills on 15 swings, posting a .267 clip at the net. Sophomore Bridget Triplett came off the bench to register five kills on seven swings with no hitting errors. Sophomore Marcie Stapley contributed a team-high four blocks in the victory.
Entering the match, the Badgers led the nation in service aces. The team continued their streak of impressive serving with eight more aces, led by Montague and freshman Ellee Anderson. Both had two aces.
Head coach Jeff Reynolds’ squad returns to action Thursday, Friday and Saturday (August 29-31) at the Dalton Overstreet Invitational hosted by Yavapai College of Prescott, Ariz.
While there, the Badgers will face the Glendale (Ariz.) Gauchos, the host Yavapai Roughriders, the No. 20 Arizona Western Matadors, the No.13 New Mexico Military Broncos and the No. 9 Laramie County (Wyo.) Golden Eagles.
