Finau Earns Highest Finish For Utah-Native in Open Championship

(Portrush, Northern Ireland) — Tony Finau finished in third place at the Open Championship in Northern Ireland, matching the best finish in a golf Major by a Utah high school graduate in 88 years.

The West High alum shot an even-par 71 Sunday at Royal Portrush Golf Club to finish at seven-under and was the top American in the event. The only Utah native to finish higher was George Von Elm of Salt Lake City, who lost in a playoff in the US Open in 1931.

Shane Lowry of Ireland won the tournament in dominant fashion with a 15-under.
