SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Saturday, as the NCAA West track and field regionals concluded at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University, former Panguitch High star runner Whittni Orton advanced to the NCAA national championship meet June 5-8 at Austin, Texas.
Orton finished ninth overall in the quarterfinals of the women’s 1500-meter run while the BYU junior posted a time of 4:13.58. The top 12 finishers in every event advance to the national championship meet so Orton has a chance to build upon a 19th place finish in the race at Eugene, Ore. in last year’s national championships.
Orton joins teammate Anna Camp, a fomer Millard High Star (800-meter race) and former Gunnison Valley High star Kate Sorensen (400-meter hurdles) as Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network alums who will compete at this national championship meet.
