SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah earned the series win over Washington State, but dropped the last game of the series 8-4 at Smith’s Ballpark on Saturday, May 18.
Oliver Dunn went 3-5 and had two RBI in the game and Erick Migueles and Chandler Anderson both had two hits with an RBI to total the Utes four runs.
Washington State took a 3-1 lead after plating one run in each of the first three innings.
The Utes clawed back with one run in the fifth and then two more in the seventh to tie the score up at four.
In the fifth, Anderson doubled to start the inning and then Dunn singled him home for his first RBI.
Trailing by two runs entering the seventh, Anderson got the inning going with a bunt single. Dunn then came up and hit a triple to right center to score Anderson. Migueles came up to the plate next and hit a triple to almost to the exact same spot as Dunn to tie things up at four.
After getting out of the inning limiting more damage from Utah, Washington State went on to score three runs in the eighth and then one more in the ninth to clinch the win 8-4.
In all, four Utah pitchers took the mound with Dustyn Schramm getting the start going 6.0 innings allowing four runs on eight hits. Only two of those runs were earned.
With the series win, Utah ends Pac-12 play 6-24 and will now play one more series at home against UC Davis. The final series of the year begins on Thursday, May 24 at 6 p.m. against the Aggies.
