BYU Baseball Visits Washington In Non-Conference Series

SEATTLE-Thursday through Saturday, BYU baseball (24-9, 10-5 in West Coast Conference play) leaves conference play to visit the Washington Huskies (16-15, 5-10 in Pac-12 play) at Seattle.

Should the Cougars be successful in this series, it can potentially bolster their NCAA Tournament hopes should they fail to win the West Coast Conference tournament.

BYU has already defeated three teams from Power 5 conferences this season, earning four wins against Big Ten Conference foes Northwestern (2 wins over the Wildcats) and Ohio State as well as a victory against Washington’s Pac-12 brethren, the Oregon Ducks.

Thursday, the Cougars are going with senior right-hander Jordan Wood (4-1, a 4.53 ERA) and Friday, they ride with sophomore Easton Walker (4-0, 0.82 ERA). Walker is second nationally in ERA.

Saturday, the Cougars go with sophomore Justin Sterner (6-3 with a 3.00 ERA). His six wins tie him for 20th nationally.

The Cougars are led in batting average by senior infielder Brian Hsu (.383) while sophomore infielder Jackson Cluff has a .361 batting average and leads the squad with 40 RBI (1.21 RBI per game).

Senior right fielder Brock Hale ( a team-best 7 home runs along with 28 RBI) and is ninth among active Division I players with a .605 slugging percentage.

The Huskies are led by junior catcher Nick Kahle (9th in Division I in batting average at .419) who leads the team in RBI as well with 34.

Junior outfielder Connor Blair has 7 home runs to lead the Huskies in that statistic.

Sophomore right-hander Jack Enger (2-0, a team-best 2.11 ERA) is the ace of Washington’s staff.

Fellow sophomore right-hander, Canadian national Josh Burgmann, has a team-best 64 strikeouts for the Huskies.

The Cougars lead the all-time series 21-13-1 but this series represents the first meeting between the schools since 2011.
