Dixie State Baseball Hosts Regis This Weekend

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Thursday, Dixie State baseball (25-13, 15-9 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play) hosts Regis (12-25, 7-17 in RMAC play) for a four-game series at Bruce Hurst Field.

This commences an eight-game homestand for the Trailblazers and this series consists of single games on Thursday and Saturday and a Friday doubleheader.

With three weeks left in the RMAC regular season, the Trailblazers are tied for fourth in the conference standings with Colorado-Colorado Springs at 15-9.

The top six teams in the conference standings advance to the 2019 RMAC Tournament May 8-11. The conference tournament will be hosted by the regular season champion.

The winner of the conference tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central regionals.

The Trailblazers’ leaders in batting average are junior infielder Jake Engle (.415) and freshman infielder Tyson Fisher (.405).

Engel also leads Dixie State in home runs (12) and RBI (41). Sophomore second baseman Tyler Hollow (37 RBI) also is solid for the Trailblazers.

Senior right-handed pitcher Jayden Murray has the best record among Dixie State pitchers (7-2) as well as the most strikeouts (64).

Regis is led by senior infielder/outfielder Connor Rochon (a .409 batting average) and junior outfielder Coby Zimmerman (6 home runs, 34 RBI).

Freshman pitcher Brayden Brooks (3-2, a team-best 28 strikeouts) and redshirt senior pitcher Matt Heibult (3-2) are the leaders of the Rangers’ staff.

Regis leads the all-time series against Dixie State 1-0 as the Rangers beat the Trailblazers in their initial season at the NCAA Division II level: 2007.
