Sevier and Carbon Counties Get Federal Grants To Fight Opioid Epidemic

Carbon and Sevier counties will get some help from the feds to help combat the opioid epidemic.  The Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development is providing the counties with nearly 400-thousand dollars.

County leaders say the money will be used to provide ambulances that are equipped to treat overdose patients, and to help provide more addiction rehabilitation services at local treatment centers.

Sevier County is receiving $80,500 grant to buy an ambulance stocked with treatment medications, monitoring equipment and airway management supplies. The funds will also supply opioid testing equipment.

Carbon is receiving a $110,000 grant to also purchase a new ambulance with drug-related emergencies. Carbon County consistently has a significantly high prescription opioid death rate compared to the state, according to data from the CDC.
