New Features At LaVell Edwards Stadium in 2018

PROVO, Utah-Per a report on byucougars.com, LaVell Edwards Stadium will showcase a wide array of new features in time for this football season.

The combination of the high-performance distributed antenna system to improve the overall productivity of cellular phones coverage in Edwards Stadium and the Wi-fi system established in 2017 will provide fans and vendors with the ultimate large-venue mobile connectivity at the stadium.

The BYU athletic department is also launching a new game-day mobile app built specifically for Edwards Stadium.

This provides fans with a second-screen experience, consisting of game stats in real-time, on-demand highlight videos, social media components, the Cougars’ radio broadcast and more.

This app will be available for download before the home opener, September 8 against California, on both iPhone and Android phones.

This new Wi-fi system also allows BYU to implement mobile ticketing and a mobile point of sale for its vendors.

These options entail convenience and security for both fans and vendors.

Another new feature at Edwards Stadium this season includes a state-of-the-art social media ribbon board.

This is located above the east stands and represents a much bigger version of the existing boards in the Marriott Center and at South Field.

Additionally, BYU has adopted the NFL’s clear bag policy. This consists of only allowing bags in the stadium that are made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC. They should not exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches.

Small clutch bags that are the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap, can be taken into the stadium with one of the clear plastic bags.

BYU season ticket holders will receive a BYU-branded clear bag with their season tickets.

Backpacks, cinch bags, diaper bags, fanny packs, purses and tote bags are not allowed.

An exception will be granted for “medically necessary items” after they pass proper inspection at a specially-designated gate.

Additionally, the stadium will see several structural sections added at the four corners of the stadium.

This will allow patrons to walk between the stands without having to return to ground level.

Furthermore, there will be more bathrooms as men’s, women’s and family-friendly facilities will be found on the north and south mezzanine levels.

Construction on this project will commence at the end of the 2018 season.
