Traffic Restrictions U.S. 6 & U.S. 89

Traffic on US-6 has been reduced to one lane in each direction near the US-89 intersection in Spanish Fork Canyon. These lane restrictions will remain in place at all times, including weekends and holidays

Crews will maintain travel in all directions at the intersection during construction, but drivers should expect delays with the reduced number of lanes

Construction for this project will be fast-paced as the team is working to build a fully functioning interchange by mid-November 2026.

Expected delays

On a typical weekday, delays are estimated at 15 minutes.

Around weekends and holidays, when recreational travel increases, drivers on US-6 usually experience delays of up to one hour under current conditions. Our construction project is expected to add about 30 minutes of additional delay on those peak travel days, such as Friday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend.

To minimize delays:

    • Select alternate routes whenever possible.
    • Adjust your trips to avoid peak travel times.
    • Use zipper merging at the lane restriction to get through the work zone as quickly as possible.
    • Check the UDOT Traffic Alert system for current travel conditions at www.udottraffic.utah.gov.

During the US-6 & US-89 Thistle Junction Safety Project, we are rebuilding the intersection into a grade-separated interchange. Instead of crossing directly through oncoming traffic, US-89 will be routed underneath US-6. Drivers will then be able to safely merge onto or exit the roadway using ramps.

Key Improvements:

      • Building an underpass for US-89 to separate traffic and improve safety.
      • Reconstructing ramps with longer acceleration and deceleration lanes to make merging smoother and safer.
