Just after 12:00 p.m. on May 10, personnel from the Piute County Sheriff’s Office, Piute EMS and Classic Air Medical responded to an aircraft crash on Monroe Mountain. The 1968 Cessna 172 went down east of Marysvale near Anderson Canyon. There were two individuals onboard, an 88-year-old male was airlifted to Utah Valley Hospital and a 59-year-old male was transported from the scene in a private vehicle. According to a press release from the Piute County Sheriff’s Office, “as a result of the crash, the aircraft ignited a small wildfire. Responding crews from Marysvale Fire, Monroe Fire, DNR Fire and the U.S. Forest Service were able to quickly contain the fire to approximately one acre.” The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
