BYU Women’s Soccer Opens 2018 Practices Wednesday

PROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU women’s soccer commenced fall practices with head coach Jennifer Rockwood hoping for big things from a young squad.

The Cougars lost seven seniors from a 7-8-4 squad which left them tied for fourth in the West Coast Conference.

The lone senior on this year’s squad is team captain Madie Siddoway Gates, a Sky View High and North Logan product.

Seven incoming freshmen highlight this year’s squad: Olivia Wade of Kaysville, Utah, Bella Folino of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Kendell Petersen of South Weber, Utah, Ashton Brockbank of Provo’s Timpview High, Lytiana Akinaka of Haiku, Hawaii, Josie Bush of Boise, Idaho and Natalie Clark of Mesa, Ariz.

Junior Ella Ballstaedt of Midway, Utah has joined the program after transferring from the University of Utah and Steve Magleby joined Rockwood’s staff as an assistant in January.

The Cougars will compete in the annual blue and white exhibition match on the South Field August 4 at 7:00 pm.

The regular season commences for BYU August 17 as they travel to Fullerton, Calif. to face the Cal State Fullerton Titans of the Big West Conference. The home opener is August 30 against Stanford of the Pac-12 Conference.
