(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah House of Representatives voted 67-to-3 to censure a district court judge in Grand County over comments he made about a child pornography case. The judge twice noted that the defendant came from a background of “privilege” before refusing to sentence him to any more jail time. Speaking about the child rape videos, the judge said that he’s “seen worse.” The judge made those comments after 22-year-old Aidan Hoffman pleaded guilty to a pair of charges involving possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. KSL says the censure was not taken up by the State Senate because Republican Senate Majority Assistant Whip Mike McKell is friends with the judge.
