IRVING, Texas-Monday, BYU senior guard Richie Saunders was named the Big 12 Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his achievements in the Cougars wins over Arizona State and Utah this past week.

Saunders averaged 27.5 points and 11 rebounds per game and shot just under 66 percent from the floor in the wins over the Sun Devils and Utes this past week.

Saunders, a native of Riverton, Utah and former Wasatch Academy star, has especially excelled against the Sun Devils as in his three games against Arizona State, he has averaged 29 points per game on 62 percent from the floor and 60 percent from range.

Saunders and his BYU teammates return to action Wednesday by hosting TCU at the Marriott Center as the Big 12 season ensues for both the Cougars and the Horned Frogs.
