Weber State Football Adds New Assistant Monday

OGDEN, Utah-Monday, Weber State head football coach Mickey Mental announced the hiring of former Wildcats tailback Daniel Wright Jr. as an assistant coach.

Wright played for the Wildcats from 2019 to the 2021 spring season and was part of two Big Sky Conference championship teams and a pair of trips to the FCS playoffs. While with the Wildcats, Wright ran for 336 yards and three scores.

Wright transferred to Weber State from American River College (Calif.) and after graduating from Weber State in April 2021, transferred to Tarleton State where he posted 615 scrimmage yards and four net scores for the Texans.

Wright Jr. began his coaching career in 2023 at American River College, helping to lead the squad to a Northern California Conference championship.

In 2024, Wright Jr. coached the tailbacks at NCAA Division II East Central (Okla.), coaching multiple all-conference performers for the Tigers.

Wright Jr. is a native of Fairfield, Calif. and is a first-generation college student. He has a bachelor’s degree from Weber State and a Master’s from East Central.
