UT Lawmakers Pass Proposal to Let Voters Give Them Power to Change Voter-Led Initiatives

(Salt lake City, UT) — Utah lawmakers plan to ask voters in November to approve giving legislators the power to revise voter-led ballot initiatives. In a special session yesterday, Republican leaders in the legislature said the proposal is meant to check the power of special interest groups from using ballot language that would benefit them. Critics of the proposal call it an attempted power grab by Republicans and is a blow to citizen rights. The measure passed both chambers and will now be placed on the ballot in November.
