(Salt Lake City, UT) — What is called the meteorological winter is ending up as a boon for Utah’s water supply heading into spring. This season, Utah’s mountains gained 12-point-nine inches of snow water equivalent or snowpack. That statistic represents the time between the start of the season on December 1st to the end this past Thursday. National Resources Conservation Service data shows the average of the past three decades is nine-point-seven inches. Neither this year nor that average comes close to last year’s 15-point-five inches. Most of the snowpack collection this winter came toward the end of the season.
