Ephraim City is considering a proposal for the sale of four properties located at the corner of 100 N and Main Street encompassing the iconic Ephraim City Co-op building, the Relief Society Granary, the Bishop’s Storehouse and adjacent parking areas. The Ephraim Co-op has been a part of the community’s identity since its establishment as the Sanpete Stake Academy in 1888. Ephraim city announced it has received an unsolicited proposal from Granary Arts to purchase the Historic Square property. The proposal includes a $1.2 million purchase price and a $2 million endowment to maintain and preserve the buildings, funded by an anonymous donor. Due to the substantial costs of maintenance, Ephraim City is concerned about the long-term viability and preservation of the property. A public hearing will be held on Nov. 15 where the City Council will consider public input before making a final decision. The City Council may also opt to retain ownership and continue negotiations with Snow College for a lease.
