(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah Attorney General’s Office is asking a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit filed attempting to block the state’s new online age-verification law. Lawyers for the state say the Free Speech Coalition is suing the wrong people, noting that the new law allows private citizens to file lawsuits if a minor accesses an adult website. Since the state would not be filing or pursuing those cases, the A-G’s Office says the lawsuit should be dismissed. Lawyers representing a group of adult-oriented websites have asked the judge to block the law over privacy and free-speech concerns.
