(Salt Lake City, UT) — Governor Spencer Cox is showing confidence in the future of the Utah Department of Corrections. During his monthly news conference last week, Cox addressed Corrections following an audit and lawsuit that came out against the department. The governor complimented acting director Brian Redd, noting they didn’t come to a quick decision on who would lead the department. He added officials with Corrections have reached out to praise the hiring of Redd, which makes him feel optimistic about where the department is heading. The audit found “noncompliance” at the Utah state prison while a lawsuit accuses the department of not properly supervising violent parolees.
