Adult Entertainment Companies Sue Utah Over New Age-Verification Porn Law

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A trade group representing the adult entertainment industry is suing Utah over the state’s new age-verification law. The California-based Free Speech Coalition filed suit in federal court on Wednesday, arguing that the law violates the First and 14th amendments to the Constitution by infringing the rights to speech and privacy. The law the Legislature unanimously passed and Governor Spencer Cox signed earlier this year requires websites with “material harmful to minors” verify users’ age with a government-issued ID before allowing access to the site.
