(Emery County, UT) — Rocky Mountain Power is shutting down its last two coal plants in Utah. The utility announced Friday the Huntington and Hunter plants will be closed by 2032, speeding up the timeline for both facilities to stop burning coal by 2036 and 2042, respectively. Rocky Mountain’s parent company PacifiCorp plans to use wind and solar power in place of coal as part of its “path to net zero emissions.” The company hopes to have a 100 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It serves Utah and five other states.
