MANTI, Utah-Friday afternoon, Manti High School hosted the annual Temple View Track & Field Invitational with numerous 1-A, 2-A and 3-A schools participating, including many who are part of the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area.
The first champion of the day was North Summit’s Maggie Zwahlen in the girls’ 3200-meter run, posting a time of 11:47.80. Richfield’s Avery Foster placed fifth overall in the event, in a time of 13:58.03.
Monticello’s Adam Bunker won the boys’ 3200-meter run in a time of 10:05.86, with Hayden Harward of Richfield placing second at 10:06.41. Manti’s Jordan Cheney finished fifth overall in a time of 10:22.68.
The girls’ 100-meter hurdles champion was North Sevier’s Mayci Torgerson, who ran them in a time of 16.87 seconds. Star freshman, Melissa Crane of Richfield, placed second in a time of 17.29 seconds. Delta’s Savannah Nielson and Adi Nielson placed fifth and sixth respectively.
The 110-meter hurdles champion for the boys was Delta’s Jaymen Brough in a time of 16.49 seconds with Cooper Parry of Manti placing second in 16.67 seconds and Juab’s McRay Stevens finishing third in a time of 16.97 seconds. Trevor Robinson of Manti placed fourth in the event and Josh Blauer, also of Manti, finished sixth.
The girls’ 100-meter dash title was won by North Sapete’s Isabelle Hightower in a time of 13 seconds. Passion Reitz of Richfield placed second and Delta’s Jordyn Nielson finished third in the event.
The girls’ high jump champion was North Summit’s Teesha Richins, with a leap of 5’1.” Delta’s Jordyn Nielson finished second with South Sevier’s Abbey Bastian finishing hird and Savannah Johnson and Kiysa Gorley of Delta tied for fifth overall in the event.
The boys’ 100-meter champion was Grand’s Eli Hazlett in 11.55 seconds, while Parker Hightower of North Sanpete finished just behind at 11.56 seconds, placing second. McRay Stevens of Juab finished fourth and Lance Fowles of Manti placed fifth.
In the girls’ 1600-meter (mile) run, North Summit’s Maggie Zwahlen placed first, giving her the sweep in the long-distance races, with a time of 5:35.35. Wasatch Academy’s Sheilah Cheruiyot placed third and her teammate, Ashley Lagat, placed fourth overall.
The girls’ javelin championship was won by Delta’s Asha Anderson with a toss of 113-05 feet. North Sevier’s Kenzie Mason placed second and Abigail Woolsey of Richfield finished third. McCadey Goble of North Sevier placed fifth and Manti’s Kjerstin Birch finished sixth.
The boys’ 4 x 100 relay title was won by the Delta Rabbits, which featured Trey Brough, Jaymen Brough, Dallin Draper and Derek Smith in a time of 44.88 seconds. North Sanpete placed third, Manti was fifth and Gunnison placed sixth.
Delta won the girls’ 4 x 100 relay title as well, with Jordyn Nielson, Ashlee Nielson, Dani Nielson and Bridgette Christensen, running a time of 52.95 seconds for the Rabbits’ title. Piute placed third, North Sanpete was fourth, Manti placed fifth and Gunnison finished in sixth.
The boys’ long jump title was won by Delta’s Trey Brough with a leap of 19-03.50 feet. Manti’s Travis Thomson placed third and Wesley Jensen of Piute finished fourth overall. Clarence Kool of Juab also excelled, finishing fifth in the event.
The girls’ 400-meter dash saw Gunnison’s Jade Wimmer emerge as the champion in a time of 1:00.83, while Linzy Flinders of North Sanpete finished third and Kaylie Jenson of South Sevier placed fifth.
In the boys’ 400-meter dash, Manti’s Riley Searle won in a time of 51.88 seconds, while his teammate, Jaden Sterner placed third and Karson Parish of North Sanpete placed fifth overall.
The boys’ 1600-meter run was won by Grand’s Ryan Lewis in a time of 4:48.33, as Jordan Cheney of Manti placed second. Hayden Harward of Richfield finished fourth overall in the event.
Mayci Torgersen of North Sevier ensued in her successful meet, by winning the 300-meter hurdles titles, sweeping both hurdles races crowns for the girls, in a time of 47.81 seconds. Delta’s Adi and Savannah Nielson finished second and third, respectively.
The boys’ 300-meter hurdles crown was won by Delta’s Jaymen Brough in a time of 41.36 seconds, while McRay Stevens of Juab finished second and Manti’s Cooper Parry finished fifth overall.
The girls’ shot put tile was won by South Sevier’s Morgan Blackburn with a toss of 25-06.50 feet. Kelsee Jarvis of Manti placed second and Piute’s Anna Wilde finished third.
In the girls’ 800-meter run, Wasatch Academy’s Sheilah Cheruiyot took the title in a time of 2:30.69. Manti’s Madison Norris placed second and Richfield’s Jamie Holt finished third. Wasatch Academy’s Ashley Lagat and Purity Kattam placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
North Sevier’s Mayci Torgerson won her third event of the meet in the girls’ long jump, posting a leap of 16-02.50 feet. Melissa Crane of Richfield was second and Ashlee Nielson of Delta placed third. Passion Reitz of Richfield finished fourth and Willow Kay of Juab placed sixth.
Winning the boys’ 800-meter run title was Manti’s Jaden Sterner in a time of 2:07.03 while Riley Searle placed second, his teammate, at 2:08.43. Jordan Cheney, also of Manti, placed third, and Hunter Torgersen of Richfield finished sixth.
The boys’ high jump was won by Delta’s Jaymen Brough, with a leap of 6’4.” His teammate, Trey Brough, placed third, and Jamal Mayoul of North Sanpete finished fifth.
The girls’ medley was won by North Summit in a time of 4:31.05 while North Sanpete placed second at 4:43.42, Richfield was fourth at 4:48.89 and Manti and Delta finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the boys’ medley, Grand placed first with a time of 3:50.37 while Richfield finished second at 3:56.07 and North Sanpete was third at 3:57.65. Delta also placed well, finishing fourth in a time of 4:01.80.
The boys’ javelin title was won by Grand’s Dakota Johnson with a toss of 145-01. Chase Fowles of Delta and Brody Barson of Manti finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The boys’ 200-meter dash crown was won by North Sanpete’s Parker Hightower in a time of 22.95 seconds while Myan Baird and Connor Peterson of South Sevier finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Gunnison’s Jade Wimmer won the girls’ 200-meter dash crown in a time of 26.32 seconds, while Delta’s Jordyn Nielson finished second and Richfield’s Passion Rietz placed third.
HURRICANE, Utah-Friday afternoon, the Millard Eagles’ boys and girls track teams got off to a solid start during Day 1 of the Hurricane Valley Rotary Invitational at Hurricane High School.
Millard, along with Parowan and Enterprise, carried the banner proudly for smaller schools at this meet, which primarily consisted of Region 9 powers, as well as Class 6-A’s Hillcrest.
In the girls’ 1600-meter run, Millard’s Katy Kelly placed fourth in a time of 5:32.39, and was only five seconds behind the winner, Pine View’s Jacey Finch.
Additionally, Millard’s boys placed fifth in the medley relay, posting a time of 3:58.34, with a team consisting of Turner Koyle, Jaxon Wardle, Sam Marshall, Jayce Thompson and Braxton Robins.
Wardle’s stellar efforts were not done yet, as he placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 150-04 feet.
After day one of competition at Hurricane, Millard’s boys netted 9 points, placing them 8th overall in the standings.
Millard’s girls are presently in 9th place with 5.5 points thus far.
The meet will resume Saturday.
