(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill that would block gender-affirming surgeries for minors in Utah is on its way to the House floor. The House Health and Human Services Committee voted 11-3 yesterday in favor of a bill that would ban those surgeries and stop puberty blockers for transgender minors for four years. The bill requires the state Department of Health and Human Services to study hormone treatments and provide recommendations to the Legislature. The panel voted down a stricter bill that would have banned surgery and medical treatment for transgender youth by a vote of 9-to-5.
