(Utah County, UT) – The family of a BYU student who was killed in a crash involving a Utah County Sheriff’s deputy filed a lawsuit. Twenty-two-year-old Joseph Spencer was killed in December as he was pulling out of a parking lot in Provo. The family claims the deputy in question crashed his personal truck into Spencer’s car while speeding to a standoff in Pleasant Grove. The Sheriff-s Office confirmed the deputy’s truck was not equipped with lights or sirens as they were speeding to the scene. The Summit County Attorney’s Office plan to announce next week whether that deputy will face criminal charges.
