(Salt Lake City, UT) — Lawmakers working on a bill to modify Utah’s current alcohol rules aren’t ready to expand the number of licenses available for new bars. The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control has been pressing lawmakers to increase the number of licenses to meet growing demand. But State Representative Timothy Hawkes says there is no reason to change the current system. The Centerville Republican says the current quota of licenses meets demand while helping to reduce the social costs of drinking. An omnibus bill on alcohol policy will be considered in the next session of the legislature.
