(Salt Lake City, UT) — The state is looking to invest in new technology to detect earthquakes before Utahns feel shaking. Utah’s Seismic Safety Commission voted yesterday to recommend that the state spend 150-thousand-dollars to study the system. Researchers with the University of Utah say the new tech, earthquake early warning, could give the public tens-of-seconds to prepare before the big shaking through phone alerts. This follows last year’s earthquake near Magna that caused tens-of-millions-of-dollars in damages.
