(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah is expected to see over 700 Afghan refugees resettle here in the coming months. Governor Spencer Cox says the state expects around 765 Afghan refugees to arrive, and they are working with agencies, humanitarian groups, private sector leaders, Afghans in Utah and engaged citizens to prepare. An exact timeline of when they’re supposed to arrive has not been confirmed, but officials expect the first batch of refugees to arrive in October. The governor says we’re grateful to offer a safe landing place for the refugees and recognize the new perspectives and compassion they will bring to our state.
