PROVO, Utah-BYU Athletics and more specifically, BYU Football, experienced a noteworthy Thursday, weeks ahead of the first game of the season.
Thursday, BYU Athletics and current corporate partner Built Brands LLC of American Fork, Utah announced an enhanced agreement to support the Cougars’ football program.
Built will also be pioneering seperate innovative multi-year NIL agreements with individual members of the football team.
This entails compensation to all members of the Cougars’ football team. This includes all walk-on players and the amount comparable to the costs of tuition for the academic year.
All players entering into the NIL agreement will wear Built branding on their practice helmets and participate in experiential events for Built.
Additionally, walk-on players will provide additional social media and experience promotions for Built as part of their agreements.
All told, this affects 123 players who will directly enter into agreements with Built. This includes 36 walk-on players on the 2021 roster.
Furthermore, Built will provide additional funding to the BYU football program as part of its corporate partnership with BYU.
Much of the funding will go toward the BYU football program as part of the currently-existing corporate partnership with the Provo-based athletic department.
Built also agreed to place two Built fueling areas in the two football locker rooms.
This includes one in the student-athlete building and one at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Additionally, the Cougars will play a home-and-home series with Miami (Fla.).
The Cougars and Hurricanes have a significant history on the gridiron as BYU, led by Heisman Trophy-winning signal-caller Ty Detmer, upset No. 1 Miami 28-21 at Provo in 1990.
The Hurricanes routed BYU 41-17 in the 1988 season when ranked No. 2 nationally.
The Cougars and Hurricanes’ all-time series is therefore tied 1-1.
